Nautical Project Life Cards using Stampin' Up!

Ok, I'm a little late with my Stampin' Up! only project again this week.  Oops!  I promise not to make it a habit!

Although I haven't been a demonstrator long, I have been papercrafting for years.  A question I often get is how do you incorporate stamps/stamping into your scrapbooks.  Stamps are great for making your own embellishments, journaling cards, title cards, etc.  That's what this week's project is about - using stamps for scrapbooking.

I've created a 4x6 card and two 3x4 cards.  These can be used on a traditional 12x12 scrapbook page or slid into any pocket page scrapbook, like Project Life.  You can use the 4x6 card (with the octopus) for your title or add a wallet size or instagram photo or some additional journaling.  The front 3x4 card is intended as a journaling card and was created only with stamps.  These cards showcase the current nautical trend and are perfect for documenting your summer memories.  And if you aren't into scrapbooking, you can also use any of these on a card.

In case you haven't heard, Stampin' Up! has partnered with Project Life from Becky Higgins.  There are cool new products in Stampin' Up! exclusive colors to help you document your life.  You can browse or shop the Stampin' Up Project Life collection HERE.  The new Project Life die set is perfect for creating your own embellishments and cards.

Happy Birthday Danny Nickerson!

I heard about Danny's story on Monday. If you haven't heard, you can read more about him here.  All he wanted for his birthday were cards addressed to him.  Well, the Lala family was definitely going to make that happen.  Monday evening after dinner was eaten and cleared from the table, I laid out some supplies on the table.  We got to town making our own cards for Danny.  My boys had a blast!

Russell 's and my cards
As you can see, Jacob is very proud of his card.  Timothy proved to be even more like his momma - a perfectionist to the core.  My husband was very colorful and I went with plain and simple.  Card-making is probably one of the most exhausting activities I have done with my boys.  I didn't have a lot creative energy - heck, any energy - when it was my turn.

We had fun though and hopefully we put a smile on Danny's face!

Happy Birthday Danny!  Our little piece of Texas is thinking of you - hoping you have a super birthday and sending you prayers and strength during your journey!

A Super Hero Birthday

Please forgive me for being a few days late with this week's card post.  We've been doing some fun stuff, taking advantage of summer as a family.

One of the things we did this past weekend was attend a super hero birthday party.  What a perfect excuse to pull out Stampin' Up's Calling All Heroes stamp set!

Quick notes:
1. The cityscape and explosion frames were fussy (hand) cut.
2. The super hero is popped-up using dimensionals.

Such a great stamp set for little boys!  I can't wait to do a flip card with this stamp set...hmm, maybe next week's card??

Hi (even though I wasn't picked)

In an earlier post, I mentioned I had submitted a card for publication.  I haven't heard from them so it is safe to assume my card wasn't selected.  Oh, well!  I love my card and am so proud of how it turned out.

Isn't it gorgeous?!?  I know exactly who I'm sending this to and I hope it makes her as happy as it makes me!  In the end, that's all that really matters.  Am I disappointed it won't get published?  Yes, of course...why would I submit if I didn't think it was good enough?  Do I regret trying?  Never...making the card made me happy and I hope it makes the recipient happy too.

Before I go, check out the Stampin' Up Clearance Rack.  Several new items were added recently.

Weekly Deals, Promotions, and New Products!

I've got a laundry list of items to tell you about today - current weekly deals, monthly promotions, as well as new products!

Let's get started with the current weekly deals.
You can purchase any item HERE.

Onto Stampin' Up's monthly promotion....
Do you have a few Designer Series Paper Packs (the ones for $10.95) on your wish list?  This is a perfect opportunity to get them. Even if you don't have 4 packs on your list, make a combined order with a friend or friends.  If you were to order 4 paper packs at regular price with shipping and tax, your total would be $52.03, $13 a pack.  With this deal, your total (again with shipping and tax) would be $39.03, $9.76 a pack.  That's saving you just about $3.25 a pack.  Check out the Designer Series Paper Packs HERE. (Remember this deal is only good for paper packs priced $10.95.)

Lastly are new products...yes, products!  There are several new items available this month that I am super excited about.

It is finally your turn to get your hands on SU's new Blendabilities markers!

With the heat here in Houston, I am ready for some Christmas in July and Stampin' Up is helping me get there.  They have released two new stamp sets to help you get a head start on the holiday season.  Beauty of the Season is a preview from the upcoming Holiday Mini.  It is a rubber stamp available in wood or clear mount.  Christmas Bliss is a photopolymer (aka clear) stamp set released this month!  Shop for Christmas Bliss HERE.

Well, I think that is enough for now - lots of stuff happening!  Can't wait to see what you create!

Hello Octopus!

Ok, so I might be a little obsessed with Stampin' Up's new Sea Street stamp set. I promise to branch out into other stamp sets soon!

For this card I used a few different stamp sets and the new Blendabilities markers.  I wanted to show another use for Blendabilities besides coloring stamped images.

I used the new Coastal Cabana Blendabilities to create the water, drawing waving lines with the three different shades.  I also used the Old Olive Blendabilities on the "seaweed" (branch from the bird punch) to add some detail.   I stamped the anchor repeatedly on the front card base just to add interest.  The white strip on the right side...well, that was initially a mistake.  I scored the card wrong, but didn't realize it until I was finished and folded the card. To make the front and back even, I added the white strip which I also embossed.  The stripe pattern goes with the stripes on the frame.  The elements are put together at various heights to create visual depth.

I must confess, I really wish there was a matching framelit for the Sea Street stamp set.  The octopus would look so much better if the cutting was more detailed.

There you have it!  I hope you enjoyed this week's Stampin' Up only card.  I loved how it ended up and already know who I'm going to send it to.

Joy!

I have been on a creative roll lately and not just making cards!  I actually made a scrapbook layout – not Project Life/pocket page style…an old school 12 x 12 layout.

Last month the My Mind’s Eye June Challenge was to use flair.  Luckily, I had just received my order of the MME Market Street lines including flair.  Around that same time, I had pinned this layout sketch:

Perfect for incorporating some flair right?

I also had recently taken some photos of my youngest in the morning light that I love.  I was itching to scrapbook them.  Love it when everything falls into place.  Now, the only problem was finding time to make it happen.  It took a while longer than I hoped and I didn't finish in time for the challenge, but here’s the page:

I don’t feel like I’m good at clustering and layering, so I really tried to focus on that on this page.  It is definitely out of my comfort zone.  Sometimes I look at the page and think the top is too busy, other times, it is perfect.  I struggled getting the clusters right and there was lots of rearranging (the engineer in me needed symmetry and balance).  Let me know what you think in the comments.  Too many embellishments, just right, or not enough?

In the end though, the page is fun and playful and emulates the joy this kid has.  Quick to smile, that happiness rarely goes away.  He is joy!
