Stampin' Up Coloring Part 1: Hello There using Stampin' Write Markers

Please forgive my tardiness for this week's Stampin' Up only card.  I've been working on several projects.  One I'll share with you this week.  Another I can't share yet and hopefully (cross your fingers!) I won't be able to share until the magazine is published!  That's right I submitted a card for publication.  Hopefully, my card gets selected, but even if it doesn't I LOVED the way the card turned out.  If it doesn't get selected, I'll share it here sometime in the next few weeks.  If not, I'll let you know when the magazine comes out!!

Anyway, on to last week's card...

This card is part of a series I will be doing about the coloring capabilities of Stampin' Up products.  In case, you haven't heard, SU will soon be releasing a new line of markers called Blendabilities.  These are alcohol markers, like Copics.  I will talk more about them when I show you the Blendabilities card.  SU still carries their Stampin' Write Markers which also work great for coloring.  The main differences between the markers and Blendabilities is the ability to shade or blend (hence the name) colors.  That doesn't make the existing markers any less useful though.  I created a one-layer card using one of the great new hostess stamps and colored the flowers with various Stampin' Write Markers.

Beautiful, right?  To help the sentiment stand out more, I ended up embossing it in gold.  Love the way it turned out and excited to see how the other variations turn out.  Since I didn't take pictures during the process, I will share a photo tutorial on a later post showing a different coloring technique.  (And the yellow/gold smudge around "there", not sure what happened since it isn't on the card.)

There you have it - a beautiful, hand colored card using regular markers.  Don't feel like you have to replace your existing markers with the new Blendabilities.  You still can create gorgeous items with them.  Now, if you want to add the Blendabilities to your collection, well, that's a different I'll be happy to help you with!

Nautical Happy Birthday

We have had an incredibly busy, but satisfying weekend.  The only thing that could have made it better was the US beating Portugal.  A tie is better than losing though!

I finished up my Stampin' Up card for the week a few days ago, but didn't get a chance to photograph it until Saturday.  Now all the kiddos are sleeping so I have time to post.

The nautical theme is still very trendy this summer and SU has all the supplies needed to extend the trend to your papercrafts.  This week's card has a nautical theme using SU's new papers and stamps.

Super cute, right?  The layout came from a sketch in Card Sketches for Paper Crafters.  This is an amazing resource tool to have in your back pocket.

For this card, I used both the Maritime Designer Series Paper and Sea Street Stamp Set, but you could easily re-create the card with only either item.  Also, I'm working on my fear of mixing patterns.  Part of me is proud of my pattern mixture.  The other part wants to take it apart and substitute some solid cardstock in there.   If you think the card is a little too busy, you could replace the stripe paper with a solid piece (Night of Navy would look good).  Then the flag paper is the only major pattern.

Paper sizes and scoring info:

  • The card base is 8"x 8" Whisper White cardstock, scored on one side at 4"
  • The stripe pattern paper is 8" x 4"
  • Whisper White cardstock is 7 3/4" x 3 3/4"
  • Flag pattern paper is 7 1/2" x 3 1/2"
  • Real red circle is 2 3/4"
  • Water pattern paper circle is 2 1/2"
  • Octopus stamped in Coastal Cabana on Whisper White cardstock and hand cut
  • Happy Birthday day banner stamped in Real Red and hand cut (only because I don't have the matching die set yet!)
  • The octopus and banner are adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals
  • The finished card size is 8" x 4" - great for giving money!

Father's Day Cards

I hope everyone had a great Father's Day celebrating the wonderful father figures in your life!  We had a great, busy weekend, so I'm a day late with my post.  Around here we celebrate anyone with the word "father" in their title...grandfathers, fathers, and godfathers.  This means I had 6 cards to make.  Luckily, I already had one for my husband, which I now realize I didn't end up giving him.  I'll share that card in a later post.  The other five I wanted something quick and simple to mass produce, but still easy to customize.

The color combination of the starburst the ribbon mean something for each person (even if they don't realize it).  I tried to use their college school colors, just to give it an extra personal touch.  They are men though, so I don't expect them to catch it!

I want to thank Debra Currier from ARTfelt Impressions for the inspiration card.

Hey Mom, Watch This! - MME May Sketch Challenge

I've been itching to get back in to doing challenges. It helps me to feel accomplished. I'm getting pages or cards done and my work is getting out for all to see. When I saw the May Sketch Challenge at My Mind's Eye, I really wanted to participate and do a layout. For so long now, I've been doing cards, home decor and party decor because I needed it. It was nice to get back to scrapbooking without a need. Here is May's sketch:
Here is my take:
 photo IMG_7485_zpse7cf6a41.jpg
Supplies: Pattern paper, felt and cardstock stickers, brad, chipboard accents (MME - Boy Crazy), enamel dots (MME - Kate & Co), wood arrow (Studio Calico) Pumice Stone Distress Ink (Tim Holtz/Ranger), Letter stickers (Fancy Pants), paint (Ranger), Silhouette

Here's some closer looks at the details:

I did not have a large ampersand already made, but thanks to my Silhouette, creating one was not hard.  I had some thin chipboard which I painted to match the colors in the papers.

"We're quite a pair!" was cut from a larger 12x12 sheet.  The "boy crazy" arrow was actually the leftover trim from background sheet.  You know, the extra piece at the bottom that identifies the company, line, and has the SKU?  Yep, that is that piece right there.  Cool, right?  And the perfect compliment to this page and how this momma feels about her children.   I am definitely BOY CRAZY!
